Women started 59% of all new businesses in Ukraine so far this year, received 61% of startup micro-grants

Women have been responsible for opening 59% of all new businesses in Ukraine so far this year, an increase from 56% last year, said Ukrainian Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

At the same time, women received 61% of all grants under the government's Vlasna Sprava (Own Business) micro-grant program, which offers up to UAH 250,000 ($6,000) to people who start businesses, even though women accounted for just 48% of grant applicants, she said.
