UN expert panel demands Russia halt strikes on Ukraine's energy grid due to nuclear risk

Russia launched attacks on Ukraine's electricity system on Nov. 17, risking a nuclear disaster that must be avoided at all costs, a group of UN experts said, calling on the Russian government to immediately end attacks on energy infrastructure.

"The latest large-scale Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s electricity system on 17 November has led to further significant damage to electric substations that are essential to the operation of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants," the group of experts said in a press release published by the UN on Monday.
