Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) and Polish State Railways have agreed to develop intermodal routes between Europe and Asia, the Ukrainian state-owned railway operator said in a press release on Tuesday.

Despite the war, Ukraine remains key to diversifying routes between Asia and the European Union, particularly due to the China-Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Ukraine-Poland route, the statement read.

"Therefore, the main task for both sides is the restoration and development of the Eurasian intermodal connection and ensuring the maximum efficiency of rail freight transportation at the Polish-Ukrainian border crossings," Ukrzaliznytsia said.

The latest agreement follows a series of deals between the two railway operators, aimed at expanding their cooperation.

In July, Ukrzaliznytsia and Polish State Railways agreed to improve rail connections between the states through various initiatives, including the preparation of infrastructure projects through the development of European transport corridors TEN-T.

A month earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia's Polish freight branch, Ukrainian Railways Cargo Poland, was granted a license by the Polish railway regulator to operate in the Central European country.
