Construction equipment manufacturer HD Hyundai XiteSolution will send a representative to accompany Won Hee-ryong, South Korea’s minister of land, infrastructure and transport, on a visit to Ukraine this month, The Korea Times reported, citing unnamed sources.
The company, a unit of HD Hyundai, the world’s largest shipbuilder and heavy industries conglomerate, will limit its delegation to a single person, a senior executive, because of South Korean safety-minded limits imposed on visits by nationals to Ukraine during war time, the newspaper reported.
HD Hyundai XiteSolution, which just posted Q2 revenue equivalent to $1.8 billion, also accompanied South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in July on a trip to Poland to meet Ukrainian officials and discuss involvement by Korean companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
That delegation also included Samsung C&T, Hyundai E&C, Kolon Global, Hyundai Rotem, Yooshin Engineering, Naver, Korea Land & Housing Corp, Korea Water Resources, the International Contractors Association of Korea and the Export-Import Bank of Korea.
Korean firms have firmly established a presence in Ukraine and have expanded their reach in recent months, with Hyundai E&C agreeing in July to rebuild Ukraine’s largest airport, Boryspil International, once the fighting stops, and conglomerate K-water agreeing to help rebuild the Kakhovka dam which was blown up in June. Also, Samsung C&T signed a reconstruction agreement in July with the city of Lviv, western Ukraine, along with Turkish construction firm Onur, according to a LinkedIn post by Onur.
