The US state of Pennsylvania has pledged to help in the reconstruction of the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia region's energy infrastructure, Ukraine's Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development said in a press release on Monday.
The State of Pennsylvania signed an accord agreeing to help the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, in southeast Ukraine, with an emphasis on energy infrastructure. The accord didn't further detail the type of help to be offered.
"I thank the leaders of the American states for their willingness to develop regional cooperation with Ukraine," Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said after a meeting with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. "The implementation of joint economic projects will help restore the destroyed infrastructure and create jobs."
Zaporizhzhia's energy infrastructure has been hit by Russian attacks since March 2024, according to media reports. The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, has been under Russian control since 2022.
